The Birding Event at Dombeya Game Reserve will be on SUNDAY, 27 September 2020. We will be meeting at the entrance gate at 6:00 am. We’ll have tea, coffee and biscuits before heading for an early morning walk at 7.00am till 9.00am. We’ll then do a combination of walking and driving, exploring some of the bushveld trails and game drive roads, before heading back to the campsite by lunch time 12 noon. We’ll have a bring-and-braai at the campsite, if you’d like to join and bring something to put on the fire- please also bring a camping chair.
If you’d like to relax and spend the weekend at Dombeya, there are 2 options for accommodation:
Dombeya has 2 beautiful bushveld lodges, each sleeping up to 4 adults (2 bedrooms per lodge, with en-suite bathrooms). Each self-catering lodge has a private pool and braai, and the lodges are within a few minute walk of the campsite, which is our starting point for the morning. The kitchens are well-equipped- including tea/coffee/firewood. Prices are E800 pp p night.
Dombeya also has a rustic campsite, which is tucked in the bush. It has an open-air flush toilet, braai area and running water. Prices are E100 pp p night.
Bring your own breakfast, lunch time braai and refreshments. Don’t forget a chair, sunscreen, raincoat & umbrella, 2 L water, binoculars, bird book and a hat as it will be hot and steamy during the day in the Lowveld. We will braai at the campsite on Sunday lunch time.
With the roadworks, it generally takes ~40 minutes from Manzini to Dombeya. It is easy to miss the Mafutseni turn now, as you cannot see the Mafutseni Petrol Station from the highway. Please look for the MLIBA SIGN, and turn here- this will feed back onto the MR5 to Dombeya (approaching above the Petrol Station).
